Super Bowl LIII Halftime Show – Travis Scott to Perform

Travis Scott will perform alongside Maroon 5 during the Super Bowl LIII halftime show.

A source close to the production confirmed Scott’s appearance to Rolling Stone, while the news was first reported by TMZ. Super Bowl LIII will be held February 3rd at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia, and the game will air on CBS.

The NFL confirmed that Maroon 5 would perform at Super Bowl LIII in September, and at the time the band was billed alongside “special guests.” The group’s proclivity for all-star collaborations opened up the possibility that they could be joined by artists like Cardi B (“Girls Like You”), SZA (“What Lovers Do”), Future (“Cold”) or Kendrick Lamar (“Don’t Wanna Know”).

While Scott has never collaborated with Maroon 5, the rapper has had a massive 2018 with the release of his latest album, Astroworld. The record recently earned a Grammy nomination for Best Rap Album, while its Number One single, “Sicko Mode,” was nominated for Best Rap Performance and Best Rap Song. Scott also appears on Rolling Stone‘s January issue on newsstands January 1st.

To coincide with the Super Bowl, Bud Light will host the Super Bowl Music Fest, which will take place January 31st through February 2nd at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta. The festival will feature performances from Aerosmith, Ludacris, Bruno Mars, Cardi B, Migos, Lil Yachty and more.

Super Bowl 2019 Halftime Show – Rihanna Rejected in Support of Colin Kaepernick

NFL’s controversial anthem policy also plays role in singer’s decision to turn down Super Bowl LIII opportunity

Rihanna turned down an opportunity to headline the halftime show at Super Bowl LIII in a show of support to Colin Kaepernick, the former San Francisco 49ers quarterback who has been exiled from the NFL following his anthem protests.

The news was first reported by Us Weekly that the Anti singer was offered the February 2019 halftime show, which will now feature Maroon 5 and special guests. A source close to Rihanna confirmed to Rolling Stone that the singer declined due to her support of Kaepernick as well as the NFL’s controversial (and ultimately stalled) anthem policy.

“The NFL and CBS really wanted Rihanna to be next year’s performer in Atlanta,” an insider told Us Weekly. “They offered it to her, but she said no because of the kneeling controversy. She doesn’t agree with the NFL’s stance.”

“The offer and exposure would have been great for Rihanna as she’s planning a new album and tour but she stuck to what’s right in her eyes,” the Rihanna insider told Entertainment Tonight, who reported that Pink also turned down the halftime show after negotiations stalled.

A rep for Kaepernick did not immediately reply to a request for comment.

Rihanna has not commented on the Super Bowl LIII report on social media. While Maroon 5 have been confirmed as next year’s halftime headliners at Atlanta’s Mercedes Benz Stadium, the NFL has not yet officially announced the performers, which may include the band’s “Girls Like You” co-star Cardi B.

The Super Bowl LIII Halftime Show will be a Showstopper

The Super Bowl Halftime show is one of the highlights of every single Super Bowl. The Super Bowl is a get together every single year as more than 100 million Americans tune in to watch the spectacular event. If you are not a football fan you can always watch the hilarious commercials which have become one of the reasons that many people tune in. Another huge reason is the halftime show; the biggest names in music and entertainment perform for the halftime show and the 2019 Super Bowl is no different. Super Bowl LIII is taking place at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta on February 3rd. 106 million people tuned in to watch Justin Timberlake perform at the 2018 Super Bowl and this upcoming Super Bowl should have similar numbers.

Performers

Maroon 5 was tapped as the performers for the Super Bowl LII. The band has been together since 1994 and they have created an incredible career together with plenty of number one hits. Maroon 5 has not officially acknowledged that they are going to be the performers for Super Bowl LIII as the NFL has not officially announced it yet. But, the rumors are very solid that they will be the performers that the Super Bowl in Atlanta.

Fan Reaction

Many fans on Twitter were upset at the selection of Maroon 5 for the Super Bowl as they wanted a different artist that is representative of the city of Atlanta. Maroon 5 is from Los Angeles so fans are not happy with the selection of Maroon 5. Maroon 5 creates family-friendly music and a lot of fans were hoping that an Atlanta Super Bowl would mean a hip-hop artist or at least an artist from Atlanta such as Ludacris and OutKast.

Special Guests

Fans are waiting to see if anyone will be joining Maroon 5 for their performance in Atlanta. There are rumors that Cardi B will be performing with them for their hit song ‘Girls Like You’. Cardi B has risen to the top of the Hip-Hop and Pop charts over the past year and a half as she put out her first album with chart-topping songs like ‘I Like That’ and ‘Bodak Yellow’. Cardi B said back in 2017 that she would not perform the Super Bowl halftime show in solidarity with Colin Kaepernick but it remains to be seen if she will join Maroon 5. Other rumored performers are SZA, Kendrick Lamar, and Gwen Stefani.

When will the show kickoff?

The Super Bowl kicks off at 6:30 EST and generally the first half takes around 2 hours so you should expect the halftime show to start around 8:30 EST. The performance is generally around 15 minutes to make sure that you have all your snacks ready for the big performance. The headline artist usually performs a medley of all of their biggest hits so it is always an interesting performance. Maroon 5 will perform their first song or two by themselves and then a guest artist will join them on stage to perform alongside the band.

Controversy

There has been some controversy over the halftime performer as it was reported that Rihanna was approached to perform but she turned down the NFL is support of Colin Kaepernick. There is a petition on Change.org for Maroon 5 to step down from their Super Bowl performance because of the way the NFL has treated Kaepernick. The petition already has tens of thousands of signatures but it is very unlikely that the petition will change anything.

Super Bowl 53 set to kickoff in Atlanta

In 2016, the National Football league selected the city of Atlanta to host Super Bowl LIII. The city won out over Miami, New Orleans and Tampa Bay – likely due to the city and Falcons owner, Arthur Blank opening the brand new, state of the art Mercedes Benz Stadium just before the 2017 season opener.

The game will be played on 3rd February 2019 in front of more than 71,000 fans. This marks the third time Atlanta has hosted a Super Bowl, having hosted Super Bowl XXVIII in 1994 (Dallas defeated Buffalo 30-13) and Super Bowl XXIV in 2000 (St. Louis defeated Tennessee 23-16).

Atlanta will certainly have big shoes to fill after 2018 host Minneapolis who by many accounts put on a great show last year. Falcons COO, Brett Daniels confidently seems up to the task saying “We are officially on the clock for Super Bowl LIII and we couldn’t be more excited for this opportunity to showcase Atlanta to the rest of world,” said Daniels. “We are already a full year into our planning process and know everyone will feel the incredible passion and pride of our city as we intend to put together the best Super Bowl experience ever.”

The city plans to hold a 10-day celebration culminating with the NFL’s marquee event. There will be concerts and an array of other events at Mercedes Benz Stadium and Centennial Olympic Park leading up to the Super Bowl. The NFL will also host its annual awards show at Fox Theatre in Atlanta as well, where awards such as the NFL MVP are handed out. A million guests are expected to attend the events during Super Bowl week this year.

According to the Super Bowl Committee responsible for organizing all the events, over 25,000 volunteer applications have been submitted for the nearly 10,000 positions available. Volunteers will be mainly used to assist event goers around the town and will be stationed at all event buildings as well as public transportation areas.

As part of the revolving cycle the NFL has implemented for broadcasting rights between the three major networks with NFL right, the game will be broadcast across the world with CBS calling the game this year. With Mercedes Benz Stadium being brand new, with it comes the implementation of new technologies. CBS is exploring the possibility of a variety of camera angles and a dual Sky Came setup aimed at bringing fans the greatest television experience of a Super Bowl to date.

CBS Sports executive producer, Harold Bryant has said “New stadiums just make the setup better. They’re wired better, ready for the technology,” said Bryant, also an SVP for production at CBS Sports. “Once you get the base in place, then you can make sure all the new toys and gadgets are working.”

Bryant said he’s going to look into placing cameras “in places that you wouldn’t normally put cameras,” including up high in the stadium’s overhead, circular videoboard. For both the Super Bowl and the season, he added that CBS is exploring additional augmented and virtual reality tools for video and graphics, at least in pregame coverage. “We’re in a golden age because [technology] continues to get better,” Bryant said. “Every year, there’s a new level of the high-speed camera or better quality audio or some type of enhanced replay device.”

On September 19th, the NFL announced that pop-rock band Maroon 5 will be the headlining musical act during halftime. Singer Adam Levine looks to bring his high energy and flair to the biggest stage in the world with hit songs such as “Moves Like Jagger” and “Makes Me Wonder”.

For those looking to score a ticket to the big game, be prepared to open your wallet. As the NFL distributes over 50 percent of the game tickets to the two teams, the host team and the 29 other teams in the league as well as sponsors for the event, tickets will be hard to come by. Packages currently range from between $5,000 to $17,000, but the best opportunity will likely be through third-party sources or contests and giveaways.

The AFC’s Best Super Bowl Hopes

With over one-quarter of the NFL’s season in the books, let’s take a look at the teams from the NFL’s American Football Conference that have the best chance to make it to Super Bowl LIII. This list will cover the likely teams to play in the big game on February 3rd as well as a sleeper that under the right circumstances might just be able to sneak into the game for a chance to win it all.

Who could have predicted the Eagles historic run last year? There will always be teams at the top of the list to play in the Super Bowl every year but with parity in the league being the name of the game, sneaky teams get hot down the stretch and find a way in. This list starts with a team that most people expected to contend but won’t.

Jacksonville Jaguars

Jacksonville won’t be playing in the Super Bowl for one reason – Blake Bortles. It has been a series of ups and downs since Bortles entered the league in 2014. Growing pains are expected with young quarterbacks but for Bortles, he just hasn’t shown that he can consistently overcome them. Yes, they played New England tough in Foxboro in the AFC Championship game last season and they almost won. Bortles finished the season strong, playing perhaps the best football of his career – which isn’t saying much (9TD, 5 INT over the final five weeks in the regular season) and played mistake-free football in the playoffs. What he didn’t do is will his team to victory and that’s what it most often takes from a QB to make it to the Super Bowl.

Jacksonville sports arguably the most aggressive and stout defense in the league. They’re brash, physical and tough to play against. Defensively, they have the ability to win games – and they will win their fair share of them with low scoring games this season but they just won’t get the high quality, mistake-free football they will need from Bortles. He played the best game of his career against New England this season throwing 4 TD’s but followed the success up with just three touchdowns and five interceptions in the next three weeks.

The Jaguars will probably win a relatively weak AFC South but don’t expect them in the Super Bowl.

New England Patriots

Let’s just get the easy one out of the way. This team still has Tom Brady and Bill Belichick. Those two are enough to get pretty much any team to the Super Bowl. Although this season has started out a little slow with two losses in their first five games, you can bet they’ll be in contention for another trip to the Super Bowl in January.

The defense has been downright awful some of the seasons but Belichick is a defensive wizard and will have things figured out by midseason, as always. The offense returns Julian Edelman after a four-game suspension was handed down over the summer, giving Brady his most reliable target. They made a low risk, Belichick-like trade early in the season to acquire one of the games most enigmatic wide receivers in Josh Gordon. If Gordon can stay healthy, learn the system and behave in the “Patriot way”, Gordon gives Brady his most explosive weapon ever and yes, we know he had Randy Moss.

Kansas City Chiefs

The Chiefs have jumped out of the gate to a 5-0 start behind a young quarterback, Patrick Mahomes, who came into this season with one career start only to set the league on fire throwing for the most touchdowns thrown in the first three weeks of an NFL season. Offensively, this team has been unstoppable this year with last years rookie running back phenom, Kareem Hunt and human joystick, WR Tyreek Hill lighting things up. They also bring one of the league’s best tight ends, Travis Kelce into the fold putting stress on each defensive coordinator they face.

Defensively, they traded away top cornerback Marcus Peters in the offseason but, it may have been addition by subtraction. The defense has struggled some at the start of the season, giving up 129 points in their first five games but they do create turnovers and have that offense behind them. If somehow, the Chiefs can keep pace and clinch home field advantage throughout the playoffs, it’ll be tough for any team, even New England to come into Arrowhead stadium and knock out a good Chiefs team. This team is for real.

Pittsburgh Steelers

Another team you’ll find on these lists every year. They have the offensive pieces to compete with any team in the league. Quite possibly, they have the best wide receiver, Antonio Brown and best running back, Le’Veon Bell in the league. Bell currently is holding out for a contract that will pay him as the best running back in the league as well as a wide receiver. The Steelers made him an offer to be the highest paid running back but he turned the offer down. Rumor has it he will return in week seven, providing a huge boost to the Steelers chances.

Mike Tomlin continues to craft the Steelers defense and although it’s not what it has been in years past, this unit will come together as the season progresses – barring injuries.

What may be the Steelers downfall is overcoming the turmoil surrounding their team. Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger never seemed to quite get along with previous offensive coordinator, Todd Haley who the Steelers cut ties with this offseason. They replaced him with Ben’s quarterback coach, Randy Fichtner who has battled with Antonio Brown early in the season. If the Bell holdout doesn’t end up finding a resolution, nix this team from the list.

Sleeper Alert: Los Angeles Chargers

The Chargers have a stacked defense with two of the games best pass rushers, Joey Bosa and Melvin Ingram. They bring in a healthy offense with a lot of weapons and an experienced Philip Rivers looking to write the swan song of his career. If they can stay healthy and catch a few breaks, you just might see them in Atlanta in February.
